Amanda Hill

I was born in downtown Toronto in 1973 to an eclectic and creative family.  Surrounded by the arts since birth I took my passion for granted until the late nineties when I enrolled at the Art Centre and knew I would be painting for the rest of my life.  With only one year at the art Centre my career took off with a bang and I have painted almost on a daily basis since that time.

My paintings are visual translations of active contemplation.  The observational process of drawing and painting expands my awareness and describes how I relate to the world around me.

I isolate elements to focus attention, exaggerate my perspective to initiate an emotional response and use a personal palette of colour and texture to evoke the senses.  I relish in the sensuality of oil paint and other mediums, rendering everyday objects to iconic degrees in an effort to capture the time, space and beauty I may otherwise take for granted.  I surrender the familiarity of fixed substances and controlled environments to an organic process that is ecstatic and exciting.

Each painting represents a measurable time frame in my life full of new discoveries; every moment is a new and delicate balance of action and stillness.
