"Black Tie Event"

As we approach the holiday season, many of us are beginning to decide what to wear to that special event. My new work explores the forms and functions of formal wear and the traditions of dress that accompanied these garments through the early 20th century. Continuing to combine, and be inspired by found materials and vintage textile patterns, my interest has spread to exploring jewellery’s role to the formal garment as a point of discovery and design. In the exhibit, "Black Tie Event", I have created pieces which act as decorative and functional hardware to a formal garment. The pieces will be shown with draft sectional patterns of clothing to reference how and where the piece would be worn. The development of this new work pays homage to an era and its ceremonies that through the ease of modern living has been lost.
