Ehrling White
Toronto based visual artist Ehrling White carries on a family tradition in the arts. He attended school at the Pacific Northwest College of Art in Portland, Oregon, with a major in Painting, and moved to Toronto shortly after. Ehrling's painting style is improvisational and abstract, but quickly yields a plethora of perceived forms to the viewer’s imagination; his large compositions at first appear to be two-dimensional, Miró-like arrangements, but they quickly open up to great and surprising depths. Working from layers of gestures, washes, stencils, and other techniques, White explores the spontaneous generation and interaction of imaginary forms. In his current body of work, he is interested in the narrative and emotive power of simplified shapes, and their ability to create dramatic space.
