France Roy

France Roy lives in Montréal, where she has her studio. Her vision is that jewellery pieces can be both ornaments and works of art. She creates her own designs in sterling silver and gold, constantly exploring new ways of bringing textures to these metals and giving great importance to formal design.

She draws her inspiration both from artifacts – shapes and patterns created by people at various times, including the visual arts – and from nature and the harmony it can create. In combining these influences, her main concern is to somehow pass on to the future owner/wearer this precious connection to nature and to fellow humans. "I could say that these jewellery pieces are an expression of hope and trust in our future, says France, and also that they convey a playful spirit that I like to share."

In 2005, she was awarded an Honourable Mention for Best Design at the Northern Lights Exhibition, organized by the Metal Arts Guild of Canada (MAGC) and held at the Design Exchange, in Toronto. She is also a recipient of a Research Grant from the Canada Council for the Arts. France’s formal training includes a four-year full-time program at the Montréal Jewellery School (École de Joaillerie de Montréal) and ongoing participation in specialized workshops. She is also working as an instructor at this school. She is a member of MAGC and a professional member of the Conseil des Métiers d’Art du Québec. Her work is displayed in several galleries and boutiques in Canada, and has been shown at prestigious events such as SOFA (Sculpture Objects and Functional Art) in New York and Chicago.
