Glenn Chadwick

The appearance of things, their form, shapes, colour, texture, relationship to each other have always been fascinating to me. This pleasure in looking has led to a compulsion to describe and record some of these things or objects. I try to commemorate the existence of something in my world and to give it another reality through my experience of it.

In my painting I aim to transform the commonplace and the ordinary into something fresh and compelling and allow others to appreciate the everyday world around us. My current subject matter consists of a series of close examinations of various flora and fauna, some encountered during travels and others discovered in my immediate environment.

I feel that the best way to really understand and know something is to reconstruct it. I am reconstructing things in my own way, using paint and canvas and using a language that I hope is both universal and enlightening. If, after looking at some of my pictures, the viewer takes away a small amount of visual exhilaration and a new appreciation of the natural world then I feel I have achieved something.
