Kim's method of working the medium of paint- layering, digging, rubbing, gauging - mirrors the process of an excavation.
Through multiple layering of paint, Kim builds up and reworks the surface, revealing and rediscovering areas.
Through this tactile, exploratory process she pursues an internal historical narrative, linking the past, present and future. While unearthing various stages of the paintings, she strives to create an atmosphere of unity and timelessness. Colour, shape and texture help to define her visual vocabulary. Kim applies her intuitive process, attempting to extract and express buried, perhaps long forgotten memories of the self and time.
