Lesley ashton

Lesley is a multifaceted visual artist who creates both conceptual and fashionable jewellery.
Born and raised in southern Ontario Lesley currently creates precious jewellery items from her Toronto based studio.
The themes found in her work are abstractions from a continual fascination with the many symbols we use to mark time. Notches, cuts, counts and lines find their way into organic and contemporary designs.
Conceptual or literal, the forms with symbolic markings all encompass the
sense of a playful and mysterious narrative. Through the themes and shapes of her work she strives to create each piece individually from sterling wire and sheet metal. Her choice of material and surface texture aim to reflect the essence of a sketch, something that is direct, unrehearsed, and spontaneous.
At the Ontario College of Art and Design she focussed on jewellery design in the Material Art and Design program for which she received her Bachelor of Design in 2004. She has been the recipient of many design awards and scholarships including the OCAD jewellery design award in 2004 for her thesis work.
