Mark Reeder
My foremost concern and interest deals with light and its effects on a subject, finding the dramatic in the simplicity of form. Primarily interested in portraits and figures, I am also drawn to the surroundings of our life, not necessarily in pursuit of profound themes and stories, but searching for the profound in the simple, relying on life to bring forth scenes that draw my eye and call to be painted. On that note, however, I find myself working through a storytelling that evolves of it's own accord, not always realizing the story untill after it's been told, and the result becomes a bi-product to be shared with the viewer, where another chapter opens in the progression of the process. After all, a painting, or any art, if not shared, is wasted. In essence, my paintings are my visual response to the contemplation of my experience.
