Megumi Noguchi

It was at a very young age that she knew she wanted to study art. Learning to paint, draw and sculpt, helped her to express her thoughts and feelings. After finishing her fine arts studies in Japan, Megumi found herself working in an enameling studio where she enjoyed using colour; but found the fragile nature of the medium limiting.
She yearned for adventure and ventured off by herself to see Europe. She was hooked on travelling and craved new experiences and countries to see. She found a program offered by the Canadian government that allowed her to visit and work in Canada for a year and she was off again.
The first thing she noticed upon her arrival were the differences between the Japanese and Canadian styles of jewellery. In Japan, everyone wore the same jewellery; no one wanted to stand out in the crowd; but here, it was different. In Toronto, with the influences of many cultures and their people; she found the different look of people, their colour, size and shapes influenced the jewellery that they wore. She wished to stay in Toronto, and became an immigrant.
Now working for jewellery designers in Canada she wanted to develop her own skills as a designer and craftsman so in 1998 she enrolled in the George Brown College Jewellery Arts Program. She enjoyed learning and exploring the possibilities in making jewellery. To Megumi jewellery is not so much a fashion accessory as it is an expression of her thoughts and feelings. She had found her medium and it has created an important step in the evolution and expression of her world.
