Michel was teaching French when he discovered the art of jewellery making while searching for an anniversary present. He appreciates all arts and is especially intrigued by sculpture's ability to fill volume in the space it occupies. It was at this time that he realized the sculptural potential of jewellery, and with this revelation he decided to quit teaching to study the craft of jewellery himself. He has never regretted his choice.
Michel designs and fabricates his jewellery in his studio, located in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec making abstract jewellery pieces in both sterling silver and gold. While following the traditional craftsman's process he searches for a contemporary esthetic focusing in on the expressive potential of lines, shapes and volumes, and the vibrations of the textures and the tonality of the patina.
Since 1991 Michel has been practicing the craft that constantly gives him a renewed pleasure provided by his physical contact with the metal. He enjoys the time spent in his workshop bringing his ideas to life and transforming the raw materials into significant and harmonious works of art.
Michel is the recipient of many awards including the prestigious “Jean-Marie-Gauvreau” Excellence award (Salon des métiers d’art, Montreal 2003); the “Excellence” award (Plein Art, Quebec 2002) and the “Ville de Québec” award (Plein Art, Quebec 1999).
