"Sacred Sensuality"
Sonia Beauchesne, Katia Martel, Renée Melançon, Nicole Parent and Karine Rodrigue are the Sacred Sensuality Group.
From February 1 until February 27, 2007 Zilberschmuck invites you to discover the work of four master jewellers and a textile artist who make up the group “Sacred Sensuality”.
Each member of the group has drawn on the traditions and techniques specific to her own craft to explore the concepts of desire, fertility, taboos, rituals and cults, as well as the many different aspects of beauty and the senses.
Inspired by the cultures of Burma, Arabia, Brazil and Native America the artists of “Sacred Sensuality” offer a fresh interpretation of these traditions while sanctifying aspects of the feminine and feminine sensuality in a contemporary context.
The common foundation beneath each of these unique pieces is the human body and its relation to adornment. Jewels are transformed into corporal artefacts replete with a symbolic content in which the quest for beauty and refined workmanship are bearers of meaning. These pieces represent far more than simply ornaments. They serve as the basis for reflection on a whole series of ideas related to sensuality and its sacredness.
