Sonia’s interest in jewellery goes back a long way. Her father was a professor of plastic art and she has always been drawn to the field. She finally answered her vocation to create by enrolling in the Quebec jewellery school, in Quebec City in 1996, where she still lives.
For Sonia Beauchesne metal is a medium for artistic expression. She wants her work to convey feelings and flights of fancy. Inspired by tribes, she crafts jewellery evoking the values of freedom and movement. Her work represents an escape from the concrete landscape of cities into the manifold beauties and pleasures of nature. Wearers of her jewellery are constantly reminded of their own deepest origins, their humanity within the context of an omnipresent natural environment.
In 2001, Sonia was one of the finalists selected in the Faut que ça bouge!
competition, organized by the AQWBJ. This award gave her the opportunity to travel to Belgium with 5 other Quebec jewelers, in order to present one of her works in a multicultural evening featuring Quebec, Belgian and Senegalese
designers.
She also flew off to Brazil in early 2004 to further her craft. Meetings were organized with local jewelers in the regions of Rio de Janeiro, Minais Gerais and Bahia. Her stay in Brazil allowed her to refresh and enrich her artistic itinerary.
Sonia is a professional member of the Quebec Craft Council since 2002.
