Over the years, Sylvie has devoted herself more freely (and feverishly) to the exploration of a new creative direction: The jewel-sculpture. Through this specific process, she foresaw a potential for expanding the limits of traditional jewellery. No more will the jewel be a mere Ready to Wear object that only comes alive as it is displayed on the body then to disappear with others in a box. The jewel rises now to sculpture status as it rests on a pedestal (or a mobile) which, through the harmony of its shape and lines, becomes its extension. Far more than a receptacle, this support offers the jewel a new vocation, a second life. The jewel conquers space.
In 1998 Sylvie was awarded the prestigious Jean-Marie Gauvreau prize by the Quebec Craft Council. Sylvie has exhibited many times at the SOFA, Sculpture Objects and Functional Arts exhibitions held in New York, Chicago and Miami, as well as exhibiting with the Métiers dArt du Québec.
